What to Measure for a Replacement Post
Record dimensions in millimetres and label which part of the post each measurement describes. Include:
Overall length, from the top of the post to the bottom.
Width of the square section. Measure both faces if they differ.
Length of the square section above the decorative turning or centre detail.
Length of the square section below it.
Length and position of the turned, routed or other decorative section.
Position and dimensions of any railing connection or handrail block.
Number of posts needed and delivery postcode.
For matching work, the arrangement of the sections matters as well as the total length. Two posts can have the same overall dimensions but different turning, square ends or railing positions. Mark the measurements on a sketch or photograph so we can see how the sections relate to one another.
Photographs That Help Us Compare the Profile
Take a square-on photograph of the whole post, with the top and bottom visible. Add close-ups of the turning, moulded details and any railing connection. Include another view if the detail changes around the post. A tape measure in a photograph can help show scale, but also write out the measurements clearly in your enquiry.
If an old post is damaged, photograph the remaining detail and tell us which dimensions are uncertain. Check another matching post on the verandah where possible. We can review your information and advise on the standard range or custom matching options; photographs alone do not establish every finished dimension.
Compare the Standard V1–V7 Profiles
V1, V2 and V3 combine longer decorative turned layouts with square ends. V4 and V5 place the turned section above a longer square lower section. V6 offers a straighter decorative layout, while V7 is a column-style design with options shown on its product page. Compare the actual photographs and section guide with your existing post rather than selecting by product number alone.
